I was born in 1952 in Richmond Upon Thames in Surrey, England, the middle of three daughters, to architect parents.
From early days, I was imbued with things aesthetic, especially 20th century English art and illustration. Particular influences were and remain the work of Edward Bawden, Eric Ravillious, Christopher Wood. My foundation year was spent at Brighton College of Art and I graduated in Fine Art at Leeds University in 1976, following the specialist painting and printmaking option. Over the following few years I worked in the art therapy department of a large psychiatric hospital in North London, later as art therapist and project organiser in special schools and homes for handicapped and disabled people. I resigned full-time employment to raise a family and established my own intaglio etching studio at home, equipping this with a Bendini etching press, bought from Phil Greenwood, a fellow printmaker. I continued to work in watercolour, pencil and ink and lino print, selling through various London galleries. I was a member of the Greenwich Printmakers for 10 years and helped to run the gallery in Greenwich Market |
